Students must <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/issmanoa\/?page_id=14548\">request<\/a> and receive authorization before they can begin any on-campus job. Each job requires its own authorization. Authorizations may be given for up to a year, and must be renewed for any continuing employment.<\/p>\n<p>Some J-1 sponsors do not want their students to work since employment may delay completion of study, and\/or because the student already receives sufficient funds for their needs during their study.<\/p>\n<h3>Conditions<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Student is in good academic standing<\/li>\n<li>Student continues to engage in a full course of study<\/li>\n<li>Employment must be authorized in advance by ISS<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Limits<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Limited to no more than 20 hours per week during academic semester<\/li>\n<li>Over 20 hours per week during official school breaks<\/li>\n<li>Employment authorization is valid up to 12 months<\/li>\n<li>Employment automatically withdrawn if student&#8217;s program is transferred or terminated<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On-campus employment is work done on the premises of the school the student is authorized to attend.
