On Oct. 21, 2022, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the designation of Ethiopia for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Dec. 12, 2022, a <\/span>Federal Register notice<\/span><\/a> was published explaining the registration process and providing more details.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This TPS designation of Ethiopia allows nationals of Ethiopia (and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Ethiopia) who have continuously resided in the United States since Oct. 20, 2022, and who have been continuously physically present in the United States since Dec. 12, 2022, to apply for TPS.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Temporary Protected Status can be granted when conditions in a country temporarily prevent that country\u2019s nationals from returning safely. Depending on the situation students, granted TPS may be granted benefits such as travel authorization or employment authorization.
