{"id":14246,"date":"2025-03-06T18:00:06","date_gmt":"2025-03-07T04:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/issmanoa\/?p=14246"},"modified":"2025-04-14T15:54:30","modified_gmt":"2025-04-15T01:54:30","slug":"u-s-visa-interview-waiver-eligibility-update-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/issmanoa\/?p=14246","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Visa Interview Waiver Eligibility Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>(Email sent 3\/6\/2025 at approximately 6pm)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aloha International Students,<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On February 18, 2025\u00a0 the Department of State announced an <a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/News\/visas-news\/interview-waiver-update-feb-18-2025.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interview Waiver Update<\/span><\/a> that changes the eligibility requirements for nonimmigrant visa applicants who may qualify for an in-person visa interview waiver.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The updated policy states that nonimmigrant visa applicants are eligible for interview waiver if they are renewing a visa in the same category and if that visa expired less than 12 months prior to the new visa application.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be eligible for an interview waiver, applicants must also:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li aria-level=\"1\">apply in their country of nationality or residence;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">have never been refused a visa (unless such refusal was overcome or waived); and<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">have no apparent or potential ineligibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consular officers may still require in-person interviews on a case-by-case basis or because of local conditions.
