Kaua驶i Community College will initiate a phased reopening beginning Monday, September 14, with all in-person and online classes resuming on Tuesday, September 15, following recovery efforts from Hurricane Lowell. Gov. Green has approved the modified reopening plan, which ensures campus facilities are safe, fully functional and clean before welcoming students back.

Phased reopening timeline

  • Campus closed through Sunday, September 13: The campus remains closed to all non-essential personnel while facilities and IT staff work to restore power stability, service HVAC systems, repair a broken water line, clear downed trees and clean indoor facilities.
  • Monday, September 14 (Faculty and Staff Only): The campus opens for employees to reconnect, assess physical spaces, troubleshoot moisture and air conditioning systems, and prepare.
  • Tuesday, September 15 (Students Return): The campus opens fully for standard operations, and all in-person and digital instruction resumes.

Chancellor Margaret Sanchez emphasized that the health, safety and well-being of the campus community remain the highest priority during this transition. Employees facing personal property damage or recovery commitments who cannot return on Monday are encouraged to reach out directly to their supervisors.
