A new graduate certificate in clinical research<\/a> is opening up opportunities in a diverse and challenging field, where students can be part of advancing new discoveries and improving human life through science at the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at M\u0101noa. The inaugural cohort of students will begin classes this fall. Applications are due by July 15.<\/p>\n

Part of the John A. Burns School of Medicine\u2019s (JABSOM<\/abbr>) Department of Quantitative Health Sciences<\/a>, the 15-credit program provides structured and intensive experience and educational opportunity for those seeking to develop skills and knowledge in the area of clinical research and research support. <\/p>\n

The program is flexible, offering the chance to complete it as quickly as two semesters as full-time students, or to work at their own pace part-time. Students will gain knowledge of clinical research and trial design, protocol development, ethical conduct and statistical data analysis. <\/p>\n

The program is ideal for medical school applicants, medical trainees, physicians, nurses and health professionals interested in developing their skills for collaborative research. <\/p>\n

High-demand career opportunities<\/h2>\n

Eunjung Lim<\/strong>, assistant professor and graduate program chair, said that clinical research management has become one of the most demanding fields. <\/p>\n

“The field of clinical research management exceeds the supply of clinical research professionals with current listings displaying 20,000 new job openings in the clinical research field nationwide,” said Lim. “Our certificate program will prepare students with the knowledge and skills they\u2019ll need to succeed with a combination of coursework and mentored clinical research projects.”<\/p>\n

Potential careers include physician researcher, clinical research coordinator, clinical trials manager, regulatory associate and clinical trial monitor. In addition, the certificate program provides students with the opportunity to transition to a higher-level master\u2019s degree program if interested.<\/p>\n
