The prestigious Best of Show award went to <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> student <strong>Dave Maluyo<\/strong> for &ldquo;Book Cover Design &#8211; Criminal.&rdquo; Maluyo\u2019s work also won Pele Gold in the Publication Design &#8211; Cover category. A <a href=\"https:\/\/winners.peleawards.com\/winners\/book-cover-design-criminal-recDfSCtQVz7wVKuk\/\">video about his design process<\/a> for turning a podcast into a book cover can be viewed on the Pele Awards website.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Good ideas are started from sketching,&rdquo; Category: Logo Design<\/li>\n<li><strong>Josiah Castillo<\/strong>, <abbr>糖心视频<\/abbr> Maui College, &ldquo;Where Home is Everything&rdquo; Category: Animation or Special Effects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the past 40 years, the Pele Awards have recognized excellence in advertising and design in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>. The Pele Awards is one of 15 elite regional competitions for the American Advertising Awards (also known as ADDYs). Pele Gold winners in all national categories are sent to the national finals of the ADDYs Competition to represent <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>\u2019s District 13 for their creative design work. Since the Pele Awards are held before the ADDYs, ADDY winners are announced at the Pele Awards for the following calendar year.<\/p>\n<p>There were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2020\/07\/14\/kapiolani-nma-addy-awards-2020\/\">two 2020 ADDY national winners from <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a>.
