Students from three University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> campuses took top honors in the college category of the 2021 Pele Awards<\/a>. Kapiʻolani<\/span> Community College\u2019s students had a stellar showing, winning 21 awards, including Best of Show, with four students also receiving Judge\u2019s Recognition Awards. Two students at 糖心视频<\/abbr> West Oʻahu<\/span> won awards and a student from 糖心视频<\/abbr> Maui College won two awards.<\/p>\n

Dave Maluyo’s “Book Cover Design – Criminal”<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

This year, the annual Pele Awards were presented live during a virtual awards show on June 5. The prestigious Best of Show award went to Kapiʻolani<\/span> CC<\/abbr> student Dave Maluyo<\/strong> for “Book Cover Design – Criminal.” Maluyo\u2019s work also won Pele Gold in the Publication Design – Cover category. A video about his design process<\/a> for turning a podcast into a book cover can be viewed on the Pele Awards website.<\/p>\n

“Good ideas are started from sketching,” Maluyo said in the video. “The sketchpad is a home for possibilities.”<\/p>\n

Another Gold and Judge\u2019s Recognition Award winner, Dominic Nobriga<\/strong>, also demonstrated his design process<\/a> on the Pele Awards website.<\/p>\n
