In one project, her students used branches trimmed from a wauke (paper mulberry) in the garden to create a rainforest. And, before going to the Symphony of the Hawaiian Birds performance, they crafted rainforest birds to hang from the branches.<\/p>\n<h2>Entrepreneurship grant<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_196296\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-196296\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/manoa-education-candide-krieger-laau-lapaau-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"large garden\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-196296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/manoa-education-candide-krieger-laau-lapaau-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/manoa-education-candide-krieger-laau-lapaau-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/manoa-education-candide-krieger-laau-lapaau.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-196296\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span aria-label=\"Laau\">L\u0101&#699;au<\/span> garden outdoor learning space<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Krieger recently won a $1,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/pace.shidler.hawaii.edu\/kalo\/\">Kalo Grant<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/pace.shidler.hawaii.edu\/\">Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship<\/a> (<abbr>PACE<\/abbr>) for Edukits <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>. This prize will cover a portion of her start-up costs, such as non-profit filing fees, website development, and other resources for the kits. She is also in the final round of <abbr>PACE<\/abbr>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/pace.shidler.hawaii.edu\/uhvc\/\">Venture Competition<\/a>, which includes a $10,000 cash prize.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Sometimes I put my own money towards my classroom because I want my students to do more than just worksheets,&rdquo; Krieger said. &ldquo;It\u2019s really important to me that they have fun hands-on activities like clay, kinetic sand, pipe cleaners and construction paper. Chinn. Her class sparked my interest in pursuing an <abbr title=\"master of education\">MEd<\/abbr>. Everything that we did in class was relevant to me and helped boost my confidence with starting my non-profit.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.donorschoose.org\/classroom\/candide\">See more
