University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa women’s volleyball player Kanani Danielson is a finalist for a major collegiate volleyball scholar-athlete award, with the winner to be determined by public vote.

To be eligible for the 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award (for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School), student-athletes must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence—community, classroom, character and competition.

A 5-10 outside hitter from Ewa Beach, Danielson has earned all-WAC academic honors and is one of the ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ athletes featured in an anti-bullying public service campaign.

Finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 candidates announced in August. Nationwide fan voting will determine the winner, to be announced at the 2011 Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship in San Antonio December 15 and 17.

Danielson trails the leader by just over five percentage points. Voting closes November 21; supporters can vote daily.

Danielson and her teammates complete in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament in Las Vegas November 21–23.
