A new federally funded initiative at the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at M\u0101noa aims to unlock advanced STEM<\/abbr> potential for underserved middle schoolers across the islands.<\/p>\n

Backed by a $3 million award from the U.S. Department of Education, “Project Pathways Into Excellence for Rising Math Scholars” (PIER<\/abbr>-Math) will build inclusive talent pathways for students in grades 6 through 9, ensuring that economically disadvantaged learners and students with disabilities receive equitable opportunities to excel in mathematics.<\/p>\n

The grant was awarded to Associate Professor Hye-Jin Park, in 糖心视频<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s College of Education<\/a>\u2019s Center on Disability Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

”Our team has worked alongside many partners and collaborators over the years to build more inclusive STEM<\/abbr> education and transition pathways for students in Hawaiʻi<\/span> and the Pacific,” Park said. “This award builds on those collective efforts and reflects our strong belief that every student can excel when their potential is recognized, nurtured and given the right opportunities to grow.”<\/p>\n

With the College of Education since 2008, Park\u2019s focus areas include underrepresented groups of students, exceptional students, STEM<\/abbr> education, transition, work-based learning, evaluation and mixed methods. Her new project will provide improved identification, advanced math opportunities, educator training and enriched learning experiences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
