To transform STEM<\/abbr> (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education across the islands, the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> STEM<\/abbr> Pre-Academy<\/a> launched the 糖心视频<\/abbr> STEM<\/abbr> Engagement and Education for K–12 Network<\/a> (糖心视频<\/abbr> SEEK12<\/abbr>) during an inaugural gathering in September 2026 at 糖心视频<\/abbr> Mānoa<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Led by 糖心视频<\/abbr>\u2019s STEM<\/abbr> Pre-Academy under the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation<\/a>, the network brought together university researchers, department leaders and Hawaiʻi<\/span> Department of Education (HIDOE<\/abbr>) educators to bridge gaps between units and deliver university-level innovation directly into local primary and secondary classrooms.<\/p>\n

From outreach to engagement<\/h2>\n

The event fostered open collaboration on long-standing challenges. 糖心视频<\/abbr> Vice President for Research and Innovation Chad Walton, alongside STEM<\/abbr> Pre-Academy organizers, framed the initiative around a shift in how higher education interacts with public schools: moving away from traditional, one-way “outreach” and toward deep, collaborative “engagement.”<\/p>\n

“Across the 糖心视频<\/abbr> System, there are already so many amazing STEM<\/abbr> initiatives and resources, which can only be strengthened by finding ways to collaborate and learn from each other,” said STEM<\/abbr> Pre-Academy Director Lauren Kaupp.<\/p>\n

Tackling challenges with mutual support<\/h2>\n

Twenty four leaders and educators engaged in dialogue about obstacles facing Hawaiʻi<\/span> classrooms such as math readiness and simplifying requirements for teachers while also centralizing resources and looking for ways to help middle and high school students access 糖心视频<\/abbr> labs.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead<\/h2>\n

The network will continue to foster this community, convening quarterly with focused workgroups dedicated to key areas, such as math and computer science integration, teacher professional development, and inter-agency policy clarification.<\/p>\n
