Looking for sunspots at the 2011 Institute for Astronomy Open House<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa Institute for Astronomy<\/a> holds its annual Open House on Sunday, April 29, 11 a.m.–4 p.m.<\/p>\n

There will be talks on hot astronomical topics such as the search for habitable planets beyond the solar system, storms on the sun that affect Earth and the transit of Venus that will be visible in Hawaiʻi<\/span> on June 5, 2012.<\/p>\n

There will be activities for both children and adults including Ask an Astronomer and, if the weather and the sun cooperate, observing sunspots through a telescope. Activities for children include StarLab planetarium shows, bottle rockets launches and constructing sundials and comets.<\/p>\n

The LEGO Enthusiasts Association of Hawaiʻi<\/span> will be back with a moon base and the Bishop Museum will again be bringing their interactive Magic Planet display.<\/p>\n

Admission and parking is free. Lunch will be available for purchase. The Institute for Astronomy is located at 2680 Woodlawn Drive.<\/p>\n
