The University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a>’s admissions counselor and event coordinator, Nicki Neimy<\/strong>, has been awarded the Department of Defense Patriot Award. Neimy was nominated by student and Navy Reserve Petty Officer 1st Class Jaime Rincon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Patriot Award recognizes individual supervisors who provide outstanding patriotic support to and cooperation with their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.<\/p>\n

“My supervisor constantly praises me during staff meetings for my attention to detail and promptness of assignments,” said Rincon, who will be graduating this spring with a degree in political science. “She often accredits it to my military training and commitment to integrity. When I have annual training, she informed me not to worry about any of the workload; she would take it on personally to ensure my focus was on the mission, all the while balancing her personal life and her new baby. She understands the strain the military, a civilian job, and schooling has; and attentively asks about my well-being.”<\/p>\n

Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve (ESGR)<\/a>, a Department of Defense program, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between service members in the military and their civilian employers.<\/p>\n

Associate Director of Admissions Jan Taniguchi<\/strong>, was at the award presentation and signed the ESGR<\/abbr> Statement of Support, on behalf of the Office of Admissions.<\/p>\n

“The Office of Admissions is so lucky to have Nicki Neimy on our team,” said Taniguchi. “Nicki works so hard, has attention to every detail in program planning and execution, develops great rapport with everyone she works with and is so very caring. We thank Jaime Rincon for recognizing Nicki for this amazing honor and for his hard work as well.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
