More than 125 students participated at the annual fair in February, where they displayed and explained their scientific research and findings to individual scientists, community groups and faculty.<\/p>\n<p>The five participating schools, Pearl City High, Waipahu High, Kapolei High, Campbell High and N\u0101n\u0101kuli Intermediate and High, entered 31 team projects and 54 individual projects for a total of 85 projects. More than 60 volunteer judges spent time with the students and evaluated the projects.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float:right;margin:0 0 15px 15px;\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_76431\" awards event, along with Leeward <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> Chancellor <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/leadership\/manuel-cabral\/\">Manny Cabral<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am inspired by the talent and dedication of the students and their passion for all things <abbr title=\"Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics\">STEM<\/abbr>!&rdquo; said Cabral, a former mathematics professor. &ldquo;The future of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8217;s budding scientists is very bright.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The annual fair is coordinated by 2015 Milken Award winner Michael Sana, a science teacher from Waipahu High, and Andrea Herndon and Sandro Jube, faculty from Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>&#8217;s math and sciences division.<\/p>\n<p>The winning students will represent the Leeward district and State of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/student.societyforscience.org\/intel-isef\">Intel International Science and Engineering Fair<\/a> in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in May.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8212;By Kathleen
