It was with sadness that Kapiʻolani Community College announced the passing of Conrad Nonaka, who served as the University of Hawaiʻi’s director of the Culinary Institute of the Pacific (CIP) since January 2001. Nonaka passed away on June 2.

Nonaka’s passion for culinary education was legendary. He readily connected with master chefs and executives in the industry, and always remembered his service and commitment to students. His generosity and humility comprised his brand, which forged and established lasting relationships for CIP.
