The awards were presented at the 2018 <abbr>PRiMO<\/abbr> Conference, Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction, held at the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Convention Center in August.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We applaud our 2018 award recipients who are have made impactful contributions and helped ensure that we are better prepared in facing natural and man-made challenges in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> and throughout the Pacific,&rdquo; said <abbr>PRiMO<\/abbr> Chair <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socialsciences.hawaii.edu\/profile\/index.cfm?email=karlk@hawaii.edu\"><strong>Karl Kim<\/strong><\/a>, who is executive director of the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/ndptc.hawaii.edu\/\">Natural Disaster Preparedness Training Center<\/a> (<abbr>NDPTC<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p>The 2018 recipients<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <abbr>PRiMO<\/abbr> Leadership Award recognized <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soest.hawaii.edu\/soestwp\/about\/directory\/chip-h-fletcher\/\"><strong>Charles Fletcher<\/strong><\/a>, professor and associate dean for academic affairs in <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">糖心视频<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soest.hawaii.edu\/soestwp\/\">School of Ocean, Earth Sciences and Technology<\/a>, and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Island Mayor <strong>Harry Kim<\/strong>, for their tireless efforts and longstanding leadership in helping the people of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> and the Pacific to become more prepared and resilient to natural disasters.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>The <abbr>PRiMO<\/abbr> Partnership Award went to <strong>Ikaika Marzo<\/strong>, a Puna resident and community leader on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Island, for his exemplary on&#8211;the&#8211;ground efforts monitoring and sharing information on the 2018 K\u012blauea eruption, and his initiative to organize donations for the communities affected.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>The <abbr>NDPTC<\/abbr> Community Resilience Award was given posthumously to <strong>Margaret Davidson<\/strong>, founding director of <abbr title=\"National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association\">NOAA<\/abbr>\u2019s Coastal Services Center, for her significant career-long work in coastal management and her efforts in working with <abbr>NDPTC<\/abbr> to make coastal communities more resilient to natural disasters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>More about <abbr>PRiMO<\/abbr><\/h2>\n<p><abbr>PRiMO<\/abbr> was founded in 2003 as an effort to explore opportunities to enhance communication and collaboration among the <span aria-label=\"ohana\">&#699;ohana<\/span><\/a> of local, national and regional organizations involved in risk management.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>PRiMO<\/abbr> is led by its Navigator Council, which includes Kim, Vice Chair Kristina Kekuewa (<abbr>NOAA<\/abbr> Office for Coastal Management&#038;#8211,Pacific Region), Secretary Jeff Payne (<abbr>NOAA<\/abbr> Office for Coastal Management), Michael Bruno (<abbr>糖心视频<\/abbr> M\u0101noa), Chris Chiesa (Pacific Disaster Center), John Marra (<abbr>NOAA<\/abbr> National Climatic Data Center), Colby Stanton (<abbr title=\"Federal Emergency Management Agency\">FEMA<\/abbr> Pacific Area Office), Raymond Tanabe (<abbr>NOAA<\/abbr> National Weather Service), Bill
