Michael Aung-Thwin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Michael Aung-Thwin<\/strong>, a University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at M\u0101noa<\/a> professor, has been awarded the George E. Bogaars endowed professorship at the National University of Singapore<\/a> (NUS<\/abbr>) for 2018–2019.<\/p>\n

Aung-Thwin, a specialist on “medieval” Myanmar in the Center for Southeast Asian Studies<\/a> in the School of Pacific and Asian Studies<\/a>, will teach the history of the country formerly known as Burma to NUS<\/abbr> undergraduate and graduate students. He will also present a public lecture on the importance of Eurasians in the study and development of Southeast Asian studies.<\/p>\n

“I am honored by this recognition, because it is named after one of the most distinguished Eurasian Singaporeans of the Pioneer Generation who laid the groundwork for the independent republic,” said Aung-Thwin. “Bogaars was also a key architect of the Singapore civil service, and one of the most eminent graduates of the NUS<\/abbr> Department of History.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
