Hawaiʻi<\/span> International Conference on System Sciences attendees<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

More than 1,200 of the world\u2019s top academics, researchers and practitioners in computer science and information technology gathered on Maui for the 52nd annual Hawaiʻi<\/span> International Conference on System Sciences<\/a> (HICSS<\/abbr>) in January. Hosted by the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at M\u0101noa Shidler College of Business<\/a>, this year\u2019s conference addressed trending topics such as artificial intelligence, blockchain applications and cybersecurity, as well as cutting-edge research that may lead to the next big technological discovery.<\/p>\n

“Early research theories and models of the Internet, drones, social media, human technology, etc., were all discussed at HICSS<\/abbr> years before their debut,” said Tung Bui<\/strong>, HICSS<\/abbr> conference chair and professor at the Shidler College of Business. “HICSS<\/abbr>\u2019 influence will continue to shape the future directions of information technology research in the world.”<\/p>\n

The conference featured 36 workshops, symposiums and tutorials and nearly 800 research paper presentations. Other highlights included a pre-conference doctoral consortium, a women\u2019s networking event, an opening reception, a luau and an awards ceremony.<\/p>\n
