The three cross-cultural, one-act plays take dramatic theories of Noh theater and translate them for a contemporary western audience.<\/p>\n<p><em>Burning \/ Memory<\/em> is comprised of three Noh theater-inspired, one-act plays: <em>Cane Fields Burning<\/em> written by Kemuel DeMoville, <em>Memory of a Dream<\/em> and <em>Remembering the Fall<\/em> by Taurie Kinoshita.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_90483\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-90483\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/windward-paliku-burning-memory-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"four actors in play\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-90483\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/windward-paliku-burning-memory-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/windward-paliku-burning-memory-630x353.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/windward-paliku-burning-memory.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-90483\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From left: Juvylyn Lucina, Daphnei Hussein, Chivalry Butler, and Cassidy Keiko Patmont in <em>Burning \/ Memory<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Cane Fields Burning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The play uses a chorus of actors and deals with the repeating cycle of domestic violence&#8212;as a young man replicates the abusive actions of his father.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Memory of a Dream<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Adapted from the Noh play <em>Matsukaze<\/em>, an itinerant priest meets a ghost\u2014the ghost is Matsukaze, a woman trapped between worlds forever longing for her lost love. <em>Memory of a Dream<\/em> uses poetry from well-known western poets to achieve a poetic-referencing technique used in Noh theater.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Remembering the Fall<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Loosely inspired by the play <em>Atsumori<\/em>, a journalist relives the death of an enemy combatant at his own hands. Wracked by guilt, he tries to gain closure. Performed by Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> students: <strong>Raymond Zach Thompson<\/strong>, <strong>Daphnei Hussein<\/strong>, <strong>Juvyln Lucina<\/strong>, <strong>Noah Schuetz<\/strong>, <strong>Shantel Au<\/strong>, <strong>Caleb Cordova<\/strong>, <strong>Micah Souza<\/strong>, <strong>Cassidy Keiko Patmont<\/strong>, <strong>John R. Barajas <abbr title=\"junior\">Jr.<\/abbr><\/strong>, <strong>Stuart Featheran <abbr>Jr.<\/abbr><\/strong>, <strong>Manuel A.
