The P奴ko鈥榓 Council is dedicated to increasing the number of Native Hawaiian students, faculty, staff, and administrators in the university system to 23%, which mirrors the percentage of Hawaiians in Hawai鈥榠鈥檚 general population.听 We, the K膩naka Maoli within the University of Hawai鈥榠 system, are the Native people of this land, unique by virtue of our ancestral ties to the 鈥樐乮na, our history, language, culture, knowledge and spirituality.听 The P奴ko鈥榓 Council envisions a University of Hawai鈥榠 that is committed to the empowerment, advancement and self-determination of K膩naka Maoli, through distinctly Hawaiian instruction, research, and service.听 Therefore, P奴ko鈥榓 promotes the superior development of all aspects of K膩naka Maoli identity, including a pono spiritual, intellectual, cultural, economic, and social well-being.

The Mission of P奴ko鈥榓 Council is to:

1. a.Increase the number of Native Hawaiian students, faculty, staff and administration in the university system to 23%, which mirrors the percentage of Hawaiians in Hawai鈥榠鈥檚 general population.
   

2. b.Promote a high standard of excellence in the study of Hawaiian language and culture.
   

3. c.Advocate for parity for Native Hawaiians and Native Hawaiian serving programs
   

4. d.Insure integrity in the use of funds designated for Native Hawaiians.
   

5. e.Assist the university in leveraging appropriate funding for Native Hawaiian programs.
   

6. f.Increase collaboration and partnerships between the University of Hawai鈥榠 campuses.
   

7. g.Create a Pu鈥榰honua, a Native Hawaiian educational sanctuary, which enriches the community through Hawaiian cultural values.
