Make & Take: JWST-inspired Night Lamp

In collaboration with RoSE Robotics. This event is open to all Ƶ students. MAKE ASTRONOMY MORE ACCESSIBLE JWST-Inspired Night Lamp Discover how space telescopes work and how they allow us to see the universe in a whole new way. Join CapM27 for an introduction to astrophotography and space telescope technology, followed by a hands-on Make & Take activity where you’ll build your own James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)-inspired LED night lamp. In This Workshop, You Will: • Explore how space telescopes are changing the way we view the universe • Learn how the CapM74 Team designs and builds a complete astrophotography telescope from the ground up • Discover the mechanical functions and engineering behind space telescopes • Build your own JWST-inspired LED strip night lamp • Learn why objects with low surface brightness require long-exposure photography No experience required! All skill levels are welcome. WHAT TO BRING USB-A power brick required All other materials will be provided. In Collaboration With: RoSE — CapM74 Team ABOUT CAPM74 CapM74 is Team RoSE's astrophotography project focused on designing and building a complete DIY astrophotography rig from scratch. Nicknamed Méchain 1A, the project combines an 8-inch optical tube, German equatorial mount, and custom electronics for telescope control and guiding. The team's goal is to deploy the telescope on Mauna Kea and photograph Messier 74 (the “Phantom Galaxy”), demonstrating that observatory-quality astrophotography can be achieved on a student budget. Open to all Ƶ students only. Spots are limited.
