Goal:
Improve descriptions of Hawaiian Collection materials by reviewing 7,500 OCLC records of humanities materials and enhancing them with summary notes and table of contents, and pilot the application of HKOS to a sampling of records.
Progress:
The Table-of Contents (TOC) Project originally started in 2022 in order to improve the summary notes and table of contents for records within the Hawaiian Collection for the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
During the duration of the Mellon Foundation grant, we have had two hires, Ani Kawada as our Hawaiʻi Cataloger/Metadata Librarian and ʻAulani Wagner as our Graduate Assistant. Together the two of them have been responsible for the improvement of summary notes (520) and table to contents (505).
Currently they have reviewed 5830 titles and have edited 4399 titles.
- In 2025, 2586 titles were edited. and 3267 titles were reviewed
- In 2026, 1813 titles were edited and 2563 titles were reviewed

Ani Kawada has also been a part of the Working Group of the Hawaiian Knowledge Organization System (HKOS), where she has been piloting the HKOS terms to the Hawaiian Collection.
