Decentering Crime: Survivor-led Human Trafficking Research in Moananuiākea

This talk reflects on conducting sensitive Indigenous and survivor-led research across Hawai'i and Aotearoa, exploring the importance of pilina, reciprocity, and accountability to people and place. Drawing from doctoral research on human trafficking in Moananuiākea, it explores what is possible when we move beyond crime-centered frameworks and enable Indigenous knowledge, relationships and lived realities to shape how exploitation is understood.
