The Brookings Institution

The Brookings Institution is an organization that does research, analysis, and public education with emphasis on economics. This website offers several links to research topics on a number of things including education and social policy. It also offers links to programs regarding economic studies and governance studies. The Center on Children and Families has taken on low-income families and poverty.

The Center for Law and Social Policy

The Center for Law and Social Policy is an organization focused on family policy and access to legal assistance for low-income families. Some of the projects include welfare reform, workforce development, childcare, child support enforcement, child welfare, couples and marriage policy, reproductive health, and teen parents.

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities is one of the nation鈥檚 premier policy organizations working at the federal and state levels on fiscal policy and public programs that affect low- and moderate-income families and individuals. They conduct research and analysis to inform public debates over proposed budget and tax policies and to help ensure that the needs of low-income families and individuals are considered in these debates. They also develop policy options to alleviate poverty, particularly among working families. Some areas of research include poverty and income, unemployment insurance, welfare reform and TANF, and food assistance.

The Administration for Children and Families, within the Department of Health and Human Services, is responsible for federal programs that promote the economic and social well-being of families, children, individuals, and communities. This website offers links to services for families such as childcare, child support, and TANF. There are also links to ACF programs such as the Office of Family Assistance and Office of Financial Services.

Advocacy, Legal, and Social Work Organizations

The National Association of Social Workers

The National Association of Social Workers is rooted in the mission and core values of the social work profession such as social justice. NASW focuses its efforts on three priorities: reducing the number of families living in poverty, improving assistance to recipients with multiple barriers to self-sufficiency, and enhancing the capacity of the welfare system infrastructure, particularly the welfare workforce. This website offers information on advocacy, legislative issues, and links to NASW publications and journals.

National Center for Law and Economic Justice

The National Center for Law and Economic Justice works with and on behalf of low-income people to ensure that adequate income support 鈥 public funding provided on the basis of need 鈥 is available whenever and to the extent necessary to meet basic needs and foster healthy human and family development. They offer information regarding childcare and welfare, disability and welfare, food stamp access, job opportunities, and related issues.
