What is LifeBridge?
LifeBridge is a free life insurance program for eligible parents and legal guardians. It is designed to help protect your goal of providing an education for your children if you die before they complete their schooling.
If you qualify, MassMutual issues a $50,000 term life insurance policy at no cost to you. If you die during the 10-year policy term, the death benefit is placed into a trust that pays for your eligible children’s educational expenses.
Is this policy really free?
Yes. There is no cost to you or your children. MassMutual pays the premiums for the policy.
What educational expenses can the benefit cover?
According to the current LifeBridge brochure, the benefit may be used for tuition, fees, books, campus room and board, and other eligible educational expenses.
Eligible education settings can include preschool, private school, trade school, colleges, and universities.
Does the money have to be used all at once?
No. The funds are placed into a trust. After your death, your eligible children generally have 10 years, or until age 35, whichever is later, to use the benefit for approved educational expenses.
If my income goes up later, do I lose coverage?
No. If you qualify when you apply and the policy is issued, you remain covered for the full 10-year term.
If I fill out the eligibility form, am I guaranteed coverage?
No. The eligibility form is used to determine whether you are eligible to apply. If MassMutual determines that you are eligible to move forward, you will then complete the insurance application process and underwriting review.
